Looks like there’s a resident owl in the neighborhood. Over the last few days, residents posted pics on Nextdoor (a neighborhood community website), sharing their sightings. Here are their photos:

One neighbor identified it as a barred owl, named for the vertical bars of color on their chests (Wikipedia: Barred owl). Adults can be 2 feet long with a 4-foot wingspan. They have brown eyes, which helps them hunt at night, unlike their yellow-eyed brethren that hunt at dawn and dusk.

They’re non-migratory birds, so this one might be here to stay.
