I recently became aware of just how beautiful and graphic moths can be and it has inspired me to create some moth and butterfly artwork. This is my first test design of an Arge Tiger Moth (Apantesis Arge) in watercolor and ink.
While looking into moths, I learned that moths and butterflies can look very similar, but there are general ways to tell them apart. Moths tend to have thicker bodies and their wings collapse back down their bodies whereas butterflies have thin bodies and the wings fold upward. Butterflies tend to be active during the day, whereas moths tend to be active at night. Also, moths tend to have fuzzy looking antennae that might be leaf or feather shaped and butterflies have long thin antennae.
